iPad Mini 7 to Feature 8.7 Inch OLED Display

Today a major faucet must’ve broken at Apple’s HQ, since we registered leaks concerning the iPhone 16 series, as well as future iPads and more. We’re more focused on a so called iPad Mini 7, which is rumored to feature an 8.7 inch OLED display. Here’s what we know so far.

Apple is planning to move on to OLED screens for the future iPad and MacBook lineups, it would appear. The info comes from well informed source, ETNews and comes after a major player in the field of screen panels took a hit. We’re talking about BOE, who lost Samsung’s partnership, on account of some property breaches. Less LCD panels from BOE means an uptick in OLED orders.

Apple is expected to introduce a single-stacked LTPS OLED screen on the seventh gen iPad Mini and iPad Air models, but that will only happen in 2026. The iPad Mini is expected to get bumped up in diagonal from 8.3 inches to 8.7 inches. The Cupertino giant will transition to the OLED panels on the iPad Pro 11 and 13 inch models in 2024. Those units should have LTPO panels, while the mini and Air stick to LTPS.

The Apple iPads use LCD panels right now by the way. There have been rumors about switching from mini LED from the iPad Pros to OLEDs. Expect ProMotion panels with 120 Hz refresh rates, or maybe even higher. Reports also say that there will be OLED screens on MacBooks starting in 2025 with the 16 inch Pro model. We’ll see that expanding to the 13 inch, 14 inch, 15 inch MacBooks by 2026.
