Apple Prepping 9 inch iPad Mini, New 10.8 Inch iPad and More
Reputed analyst Ming-Chi Kuo is on the case again and this time he’s telling us what the future brings, iPad-wise. Turns out that Apple is working on a much larger iPad Mini, plus a new 10.8 inch iPad. We have the details below.
Apple seems to have planned extra iPads for the second half of 2020, with even more sizes. The analyst claims that in the second semester, Apple is going to debut a new iPad with a 10.8 inch display, together with a new iPad Mini, which could end up with a diagonal between 8.5 inches and 9 inches. Right now, the current iPad entry level morel has a 10.2 inch display and the iPad Air has a 10.5 inch screen. The iPad Mini has always had a 7.9 inch screen. The new 10.8 inch iPad sure sounds like a replacement for the iPad Air or the entry level unit, if you ask me.
Increasing diagonal sizes seem to be the trend here and this begs the question: is an iPad Mini with a 9 inch screen really a “Mini”? I mean yes, but only provided that the bezels are seriously cut. You could fit a 9 inch screen in the current format if you got rid of the Home button and large chin and forehead. Kuo also claims that the new iPads will be unique, because they’ll come at more affordable prices and also with faster chips.
We may end up with iPhone SE 2020 versions in the tablet world. Right now the cheapest iPad is a $329 model, with a 10.2 inch screen. The iPad Air is $499 and has a 10.5 inch screen. By the way Apple Glasses now have a target release date of March to June 2021.
