Google Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet Features Uncovered in Android 14 Developer Preview 2

Google keeps on leaking info about its upcoming hardware products, with the Google Pixel 8 and Google Pixel 8 Pro leaked online in renders over the past 24 hours. Now we also scored some info regarding the Google Pixel Fold and Google Pixel Tablet.

Those have leaked courtesy of Android 14 Developer Preview 2. We may see one or both at Google I/O 2023 on May 10th. Last week Google released Android 14 Developer Preview 2 (DP2), which is the second public Android 14 build. 9to5google uncovered code snippets that hint at the release of larger screen devices. While the Pixel Tablet was already teased, the Pixel Fold was only leaked till now.

They will arrive with Android 13 on board, but they should be updated to Android 14 faster. Google is working on a special desktop mode for both, which is better with window management, resizable app windows and freely positionable windows. The windows will come with new buttons at the top, which makes it easier to close apps, adjust their size and take screenshots.

Android 14 DP2 also makes hints regarding the face unlock support on the Pixel Fold. Pixel Tablet will mimic the S23 Ultra by letting people take written notes with a stylus on the locked screen. The beta build includes a “Dual Shade”, which is an overhauled Quick Settings and notifications area. The Pixel tablet should have a 2.5K display, 8 GB of RAM and 256 GB of storage, plus a side mounted fingerprint scanner.
