Huawei MatePad Pro 5G Tablet Debuts, 4G and WiFi Models Also Coming to Europe
Huawei had a field day today, announcing a slew of new products, including the foldable Mate Xs, a bunch of new phones, but also a tablet. It’s the world’s second 5G tablet, following the Galaxy Tab S6 5G. Huawei MatePad Pro 5G has been announced in Europe, where it will also come in WiFi and 4G versions.
It’s got a Kirin 990 5G processor, the same one from the Mate Xs and Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G. There’s also an integrated 5G modem, 27W wireless charing, plus reverse wireless charging. There’s also fast wired charging, at 40W. I should probably mention that the specs are largely the same as the MatePad Pro announced last year, except for the CPU and 5G. There’s the same 10.8 inch screen with a 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution and a selfie camera cut in the display.
Huawei bragged about its narrow bezels for the screen, just 4.9 mm thick, leading to a 90% screen to body ratio, which is actually superior to the iPad Pro and Galaxy Tab S6. The device also has 8 GB of RAM, 256 GB of storage and it runs on Android 10 with EMUI 10 on top. No Google Play Store or Services here, it seems. There’s a new type of split screen that has two apps running side by side and supports 3000+ apps. There are also accessories for the device, like a keyboard and stylus. The Smart Keyboard offers a long key travel of 1.3 mm and the M Pencil stylus supports over 4000 levels of pressure. We also get quad speakers for loud music, a main 13 MP camera and a front8 MP shooter.
Weighing 460 grams and measuring 7.2 mm, the product is available in orange and green, if you opt for a Vegan Leather Edition. The glass back model comes in white or gray. The price starts at 550 euros for the WiFi model, goes to 600 for the 4G one and 800 for the 5G one.
