Improve your short game with our favorite putting mats
While I can yeet a golf ball in a straight line 98% of the time, I often struggle with my short game. Putting mats help me practice from the comfort of my own home before I head to the course and make a fool of myself once again. These are our favorite putting mats, and each offers something a little different.
Almost the real thing
Putt-A-Bout Grassroots Par Three Putting Green
This is my personal favorite as the shape and size feel more like a putting green. The “grass” has the same feel as the greens on my local course, and having three different holes to shoot keeps it interesting. I also like the additional “hazards” at the back, as they stop my ball from rolling away if I overshoot.

Keep it straight
SKLZ Accelerator Pro Indoor Putting Green
This is a more straight forward putting mat that is specifically to train you to keep your putting line straight. It uses clearly laid out tracks to guide your eye, keeping your putter pointed where it needs to be. From there, you just need to use the right power to get the ball in the hole. It also has a ball return, too, so you can keep on putting forever.

13 feet of training
WellPutt Putting Mat
While this 13-foot long mat is a little pricey, it comes with over 50 different exercises to help you master the “feel” of putting. By teaching you how to make better distant estimates, it helps train you to choose the right power for your put. The mat also allows for front and back play so you can putt up to one side then putt the other way, saving you time and effort.

Champkey Speed Control Putting Mat
There are so many ways to use the Champkey speed control putting mat. Not only can you putt from both ends, but the golf hole is also movable, as is a clever slope wedge that comes with it. The slope wedge allows you to lift areas of the matt to simulate more difficult putting greens and a little flavor to your at-home putting experience.

Champkey Puttech Pro
Another great offering from Champkey; this putting matt is designed to help with speed and accuracy. The big selling point here, though, is the ball return system and the hazards that stop your ball rolling away. The hazards are also connected to the return system, so you aren’t punished for a bad shot, which is good, because I have a lot of those.

Putt your money where your mouth is
I’m a 13 handicap in golf, and I’ve been struggling to get better. Part of that is time to play, but the other big part is my shocking short game. I’ve been using the Putt-A-Bout Grassroots Par Three Putting Green for a while now, and it is definitely helping as I’ve picked up a few shots from my putting every round. If practice makes perfect, then having a mini green all to myself is going to make me perfect. Maybe.
For an even more comprehensive teaching mat, you should have a look at the Champkey speed matt. The variety the Champkey brings makes it perfect for those with a better handicap looking to up their putting skills even more.
