Onyx BOOX Nova Air C E Ink Tablet Has a 7.8 Inch Color Screen with Pen Support
There’s a growing trend regarding E Ink tablets, but there are still very few ones with color screens. To that bunch we add the Onyx BOOX Nova Air C model today, that has just been certified and pictured. It’s a 7.8 inch E Ink device with support for pressure sensitive input and Android 11.
Onyx has yet to introduce the device, but it did submit its documents to the FCC. They include pictures with an user manual with detailed specifications. It’s not very clear when the unit goes on sale and how much it will cost. The specs and design are quite similar to the ones of the Onyx BOOX Nova Air, which launched last year and it’s priced at $350. The differences are that the new model will come with newer software and a color ePaper display, one limited to 16 shades of grey.
The E Ink displays tend to have a more limited color palette than LCDs or OLED screens, maxing out at 4096 colors. Colors look less vibrant and because of the way E Ink implements color, the pixel density appears much lower when viewing color content compared to black and white materials. The tablet is meant for viewing digital textbooks, magazines, comics and websites.
The device brings 3 GB of LPDDR4X RAM, 32 GB of storage, a 2000 mAh battery and an USB-C OTG port. There’s Wi-Fi dual band here, Bluetooth 5.0, a speaker and mic, Android 11 and measures 6.3 mm in thickness. It weighs 245 grams and a custom version of Android 11 is here, with the option to install third party Android apps and use Play Store.
