First AMD Ryzen 8040 Is the MINISOFRUM V3, With Windows and a 14 Inch Screen
We’ve all heard about the power of the brand new AMD Ryzen 8040 processor, but up until now it was only associated with desktops and laptops. Today we learn of the first tablet to feature it, the MINISFORUM V3. It’s detailed below.
We’re dealing with a 14 incher that runs on Windows and its preorders are set to begin in Q1 2024. The device sports a 14 inch screen, with a high resolution and also delivers support for a pressure sensitive pen. There’s a detachable keyboard in the mix, which turns it into a sort of laptop. It even has two fully functional USB4 40 Gbps ports and a third USB-C port, that acts like a DisplayPort input.
The company behind the tablet started teasing it even before the new AMD CPU was a thing. Back then it was known under the codename “AMD Hawk Point”. The new AMD Ryzen 7 8040 processor is a 28 watt chip, with 8 cores, 16 threads, base/max boost frequencies of up to 3.3 GHz and 5.1 GHz respectively. There’s also integrated AMD Radeon 780M graphics with 12 RDNA 3 compute units.
It’s not very clear if it’s the AMD Ryzen 7 8840U or the Ryzen 7 8840HS processor. It now includes a dedicated neural processing unit, that offers on device AI features, like Windows Studio Effects for videocalls. That feature also brings things like eye contact correction, auto frame and advanced background effects.
There 14 inch screen has a 2560 x 1600 pixel resolution and up to 165 Hz refresh rate. There’s also up to 32 GB of RAM, up to 2 TB of storage, quad speakers and a 5 MP back camera with autofocus, as well as a 2 MP front IR camera. The battery is a 50.82 Wh unit. Everything in a magnesium shell, that weighs 946 grams.
