GPD Win Mini 2024 Gaming Handheld Features Ryzen 7 8840U CPU, 7 Inch Screen

It has become very trendy to make portable gaming consoles with Windows on board, between ASUS ROG Ally, the MSI Claw and Lenovo Legion handheld. There were of course other brands that did that, like GPD, years ago and now they’re back with a new model, the GPD Win Mini 2024. Its features are detailed below.

GPD is updating its Mini handheld lineup for 2024, featuring the AMD Ryzen 8000 series APUs. The new Win Mini comes with either a Ryzen 7 8840U or a Ryzen 5 8640U processor, reaching up to 8 Zen 4 cores. It uses the AMD XDNA AI-core technology, improving performance particularly in computing tasks. The screen is now a 7 incher, with a 1080p resolution and LTPS panel.

It can refresh at 120 Hz and comes with support for FreeSync Premium and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR). Plus Gorilla Glass 6 protection. The 2024 model has dropped the OcuLink support, present on the previous version, used to connect external GPUs. Now it uses USB4 connections. The device also has improved performance in emulating PS3 games, reaching 60 FPS.

It also supports AVX-512 instructions, said to help with this matter. The Win Mini 2024 will be available via a crowdfunding campaign, with prices starting at $879 for the basic config with the Ryzen 7 8840U processor, 32 GB of RAM and options for 512 GB or 2 TB of SSD storage.
